Yuk Mengenal Diri dan Mencintainya!

Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.

HALO SEMUANYAA!

YOU HAVE YOUR OWN PASSION ! Gak perlu sama-samain kita dengan orang lain. Orang lain hebat di A, kalian gak hebat di A, it’s okay bro! Emang kenapa!

Wassalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.

Pentingnya Mental Health Bagi Gen Z

Passive Voice Task Number 1 Dicky Prasetya Pangestu Aji

Study this topic!
USING THE AUXILIARY VERB “BE”
The passive voice is formed by using a form of the auxiliary verb “be” (be, am, is, are, was,
were, being, been) followed by the past participle of the main verb.
Active Passive
He loves me. I am loved.
We took our children to the circus. The children were taken to the circus.
A thief stole my money. My money was stolen.
Notice how the “be” auxiliaries change the meaning of the verbs from action to condition or from “doing” to “being.”
He remembers his grandmother. (“he” is doing an action: remembering)
His grandmother is remembered. (“she” is in a condition: being remembered)
In this way, the past participle functions very much like an adjective; it describes the subject.
The woman is pretty. She is a pretty woman
The woman is married. She is a married woman.

VERB TENSES USED IN ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE
The following is a summary of active and passive forms of all verb tenses. Remember that in active forms the subject of the sentence is the person or thing that does the action. In passive constructions, the verb is performed by someone or something other than the subject; often, the action is done to the subject by someone else.
Present Time
• Simple Present
Use the simple present tense to make a generalization, to present a state of being, or to
indicate a habitual or repeated action.

Active Passive
base form or “-s/-es” form am/is/are + past participle
Professor Brown teaches at Hunter.
All humans are equal.
Sonia is taught by Professor Brown.
All humans are created equal.
Maria eats in the cafeteria. The cafeteria is cleaned
• Present Progressive
Use the present progressive to describe an ongoing activity or a temporary action.
Active Passive
am/is/are + -ing am/is/are + being + -ed/-en
The students are learning Spanish. Classes are being conducted in Spanish.
He is being hired to work at McDonald’s.
I am working at McDonald’s until I finish school.
• Present Perfect
Use the present perfect to describe an action occurring in the past but relevant to the
present, or extending to the present.
Active Passive
has/have + -ed/-en has/have + been + -ed/-en
Hunter has opened a language institute in East Harlem.
The language institute has been opened to relocate students off the main campus.
Hunter has offered E.S.L courses for twenty years.
E.S.L. courses have been offered since the beginning of Open Admissions
• Present Perfect Progressive
Use the present perfect progressive to describe an ongoing action beginning before now and is still relevant to the present.
Active Passive
has/have + been + -ing has/have + been + being + -ed/-en
Hunter has been awarding BA and MA diplomas for over one hundred years.
Note: Because of awkward construction, the perfect progressive form is not used in the passive
voice. Instead, an adverb may be used to show continuing action: “We have been repeatedly scolded for being late.”

Past Time
• Simple Past
Use the simple past to indicate a general or habitual action occurring in the past or at a
specific time in the past.
Active Passive
base + -ed or irregular form
was/were + -ed/-en
Our family bought all our clothes at Sears when I was young. The clothes were bought by my mother On my fifteenth birthday, my uncle gave me one hundred dollars. The money was given to me to buy new clothes. When I was in high school, my friends and I drove to the mall on weekends. We were always driven to the mall by my friend's older brother. In informal conversation, speakers of English often express habitual behavior in the past using the modal “would.”

Active
would + base
Passive
would + be + -ed/-en
We would usually eat burgers in the food court.
Most of the french fries would be eaten before we got to the table.

• Past Progressive
Use the past progressive to indicate an ongoing action in the past or an action continuing
through a specific past time.
Active Passive

action or time.

had + been + -ing had + been + being + -ed/-en
Mary had been trying to tell her mother about Paul for a long time.
Future Time
• Simple Future
Use the future to indicate an action that is expected to take place at a future time.

Although active voice is generally preferred in academic writing, passive voice is acceptable under certain conditions.

• to emphasize the receiver of the action instead of the doer
Quizzes are given regularly. Grades for all students are averaged. Questions are encouraged.
• to keep the focus on the same subject through several sentences or paragraphs

We decided to finish high school before leaving our own country. We were concerned that the education in this country might not be as good as the one we had there, and we wanted to improve our English too.

• when we do not know who performed the action:
Ray's calculator was made in Germany. The answers have been filled in.
• when we do not wish to mention the doer of the action:
Many problems have been ignored for too long. I was given some bad advice.
Note: This use often reveals an unwillingness to take responsibility (or place it on someone else).

Banning of motorbikes is necessary in housing areas.
Language Features
Introduction (Thesis statement)
Motorbikes are a nuisance and a cause for great distress. Even though motorbikes are considered as the most convenient form of transportation, I think they are a hazard to humans, animals as well as the environment. I think motorbikes should be banned in housing areas due to the following reasons: cause of unreasonable amount of noise, air pollution, diseases, and accidents.
Mental verbs
I think
believe
Argument 1
+
elaboration
First of all, I would like to point out that motorbikes are a major contributor to the pollution in the world. Research has shown that motorbikes emit a deadly gas that is dangerous for the environment. Consequently, long-term emission of gas from motorbikes is a major contributor of global warming (Science Daily).
Conjunctive relations First of all
Secondly
Causal
conjunctions Consequently
Argument 2
+
elaboration
Secondly, according to a report from BBC News Channel, motorbikes are also responsible for causing diseases such as bronchitis, cancer and are a major trigger of asthma and high blood pressure. Some of the diseases are so ghastly that they can kill people (BBC News, 2009)
Generic reference Accidents
Argument 3
+
elaboration
Furthermore, motorbikes create so much noise. There is “vroom vroom” noise everywhere. It is extremely difficult to sleep. Parents with infants find it extremely challenging. The moment their babies fall asleep, one or another motorbike passes by and the baby wakes up. It is also arduous for children to concentrate on their homework. Experts are of the opinion that if there is extreme noise, it can lead to deafness and lack of concentration in children and adults (Fields, 1993).

Argument 4
+
elaboration
Finally, motorbikes are responsible for horrible accidents. In some cases, there are deaths. Motorbike riders go so fast that they are unable to stop on time thus they end up hing other people or animals. Many times a lot of animals are trampled and found dead on the road. Motorbikes are known to be the biggest killers on the road (Fields, 1993).
Present tense Are responsible Go so fast Are known
Conclusion (Reiteration of thesis statement)
In conclusion, from the arguments above, I strongly believe that motorbikes should be banned from housing areas.
ASSIGNMENTS
1.The article given below is incomplete. Complete it using the format of an exposition text!
Introduction (thesis statement)
Television is the most popular form of entertainment in every household in Indonesia. However, I think watching television too much especially soap operas and dramas can have negative impacts on the viewers, television is bad for children, cause diseases, disturb the learning process.
Argument 1 + Elaboration
First of all, I would like to point out that television has negative impact on the viewers. Research shows that events on television can have a negative impact on the audience like dramas or action film, dramas has an element of personality or lifestyle that could make the audience to follow and apply it to real life such as a love story, emotion, etc. as a result, over time television can change the culture and mindset of the people, including teenagers who frequently watch the drama.
Argument  2 + Elaboration
Secondly, according to health articles, television is also responsible for causing the disease if used for a long time such as heart disease, obesity, asthma, eye damage and diabetes. Some dreadful disease that can kill people, if the time to watch television is not restricted.
Argument 3 + Elaboration
Furthermore, television is bad for children. Many children tend to follow their favorite actors or actress, following same attitude. When children watch action movies, he would imitate and do the same at home, the school that would injure them or others. The American academy of pediatrics (AAP) recommends that kids under 2 years old not watch any television and that those older than 2 watch no more than 1 to 2 hours a day.
Argument 4 + Elaboration
Finally,  television disrupt the learning process. Many children who watch television for long hours. As a result, the child’seyes became weak, lazy learning and affect a child’s behavior. If thehe children keep wasting their precious time watching television for long hours instead studying, it may affect their school result.
Conclusion (restatement of thesis statement)
In conclusion, from the arguments above, I strongly believe that television should be banned for children and every person is forbidden to watch television in a long hours.

TUGAS BAHASA INGGRIS (OPINION - DICKY PRASETYA PANGESTU AJI)

1.Dicky :"Do you agree with the opinion that conservation of wildlife is important?"
Rania :"No doubt abot it,because as we known the population of scarce animal and vegetation is almost extinct. So,we must protect and love them with building wildlife preserve and anything else."
Dicky:"You're absolutely right. But now, many people doesn't responsible hunting and killing scarce animal just for their interest."
Rania:"I see your point but we can minimize it with request to government that we must have an explicit law for hunter who killing scarce animal."
Dicky :"I totally agree with you,so that the scarce animal population will be safe."

2.Conservation of wildlife is important. The goals of conservation itself is to protecting wild plants and animal species in their habitat. Hunters might kill them or exploitation of their habitat might happen in the future. And if their habitat damages the effect would be really big. The effect itself will impact us and also their food chain. If there is an food chain imbalance, it would shake their ecosystem. Example: The tiger is at the top of the food chain in all the ecosystems it lives in. As such, it keeps populations of deer, wildbore, sambar and gaur in check. Without the tiger to control them these prey species would expand. This excessive population would then totally ravage its food source - vegetation.
